Product Description

Linen torchons are the best fabric to use for drying glassware, china or silver. They are very absorbent and don’t leave smear marks on the surface.  This torchon probably dates from the 1920’s.

One plain buttermilk coloured torchon with J embroidered in the traditional red cotton, with a hand stitched hem; 65cm x 81 cm. This is a very fine light linen with two stripes in a slightly tighter weave.

Simple torchons add a French country cottage element to your kitchen. The word ‘torchon’ is a French word for a traditional linen cloth that is wrapped around food to prevent it drying out. Richard Olney in Luke Barr’s book Provence 1970 cooks a Beef Bourgignon with the torchon wrapped around it.

The linen is very durable and versatile. It can be used also to make cushions, aprons and other textile projects. I have a couple of other torchons available also for purchase.
